The Curing Mechanism for condensed and cured
silicon the result of the hydrolysis and the
condensation reaction of Silanol(Si-OH), the
main component, and a crosslinker(Si-X). The
existence of water is essential in this reaction,
and a catalyst is required. Reaction (1) indicates
the state inside the storage container - the
state where the bottom of the polymer is sealed
with a crosslinking agent - and is stabilized
under the condition of no moisture. When exposed
to moisture as in (2), parts of X is replaced
with OH and then go through the condensation
reaction, producing polymer crosslinkings
as in (3). These reactions occur sequentially
and finally produce elastic gum. |
